Why are patient implant cards important?
Implant cards are new requirements set out by the regulatory bodies to manufacturers because of their ability to positively impact on patient safety.
The significance of implant cards are as such:
Enable the patient to identify the implanted device.
Enable patients to identify themselves as persons requiring special care with regards to security checks etc.
In emergency cases the implant card might be used to inform (e.g the first responder) about special needs.
Follow these steps when consulting with patients:
Please advise the patient to keep the implant card carefully and to present it at each follow up medical visit or during an examination such as MRI, CT scan, ultrasound, etc.
Please inform the patient to access the website provided on the implant card to find additional information on the product.
